About WCAG 2.2

What is WCAG and why does it matter?

WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) is the international standard for web accessibility, published by the W3C. WCAG 2.2 is the latest version, adding new criteria for cognitive and motor accessibility.

Over 1 billion people worldwide have a disability. Non-conformant sites are also exposed to ADA and AODA legal risk. Level AA conformance is the legal benchmark in most jurisdictions.

Level A — Minimum

Basic accessibility. Must pass to avoid complete exclusion of users with disabilities.

Level AA — Standard (legal benchmark)

Required by ADA, AODA, EN 301 549. Covers contrast, keyboard navigation, labels, and more.

Level AAA — Enhanced

Highest level. Not required by law but recommended for government and education sites.
